Status of EGMS and NIH 2590 Forms

Announcement from Pamela A. Webb, Associate Vice President for Research Administration

02/14/2008

Colleagues,

I've received questions in the last few days about the status of EGMS as it relates to NIH's updated 2590 forms (non-competing continuation progress report).

We have been working with OIT since January to ensure that EGMS is updated to reflect the changes in the 2590 forms announced in NIH's Guide notice issued on January 4, 2008 (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-08-030.html). The updated forms (which have a form date of 11/07) will become mandatory for progress reports received by NIH on or after March 1, 2008. We are trying very hard to have these new forms ready so that they may be used this month, but we do not yet have a release date. We are expecting to have more information within the next couple of days, and I will send out an update at that time.

At this point, PIs have two options:

(1) EGMS currently supports the existing version of the NIH 2590 forms, and this version may be used for all submissions that are received by NIH through February 29th . To meet that deadline, non-competing progress reports would need to be prepared, routed, and delivered to SPA by the end of the day on February 27th.

(2) PIs who expect to race the deadline and/or who prefer to use the new forms may do so immediately by using the form-fillable versions of the 2590 available on the NIH web site at: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/2590/2590.htm.

We will also be back in touch with you on the status of EGMS as it relates to the updated versions of NIH’s 398 forms. That updated form set is available now on the NIH web site at (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/phs398/phs398.html) and will be required for use for the May 25, 2008 deadlines and beyond. Please remember that many NIH mechanisms now use Grants.Gov and its SF-424R&R form sets and thus no longer use the 398 forms per se.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have questions. We’ll be back in touch very soon about the status and release date for the 2590 forms in EGMS.

-- Pamela
