The University of Minnesota has reached an agreement on the FY12 fringe
benefit rates with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS),
our cognizant Federal agency. The future rates and the current rates
are shown below:
FY12 Fringe Benefit Rates
Academic =36.0%
Civil Service = 41.3%
Graduate Assistant = 26.1%
FY11 Fringe Benefit Rates
Academic = 33.3%
Civil Service = 40.1%
Graduate Assistant = 24.2%

The FY12 fringe benefit rates will be effective on July 1, 2011. They
should be used in sponsored proposal budgets for work that will be
conducted on or after July 1, 2011. PIs and their staff are encouraged
to use the new rates in their proposals immediately if the project will
extend into the next fiscal year. All proposals submitted to SPA on or
after May 15, 2011, will be expected to incorporate the new rates. EGMS
will be updated shortly to reflect the new rates.
