Managing Sponsored Projects
UM SPA, May 2008 |
Reporting to the sponsor
Failure to comply with reporting requirements could result in withheld or
incomplete payments from the sponsor. PIs and departments are responsible
for covering payments not received because technical reports were not appropriately
submitted.
Invention Reports
Any invention conceived or first brought to practice that is related to the
inventor's work assignment or invented while using University resources is
owned by the University subject to any rights of the sponsor. Inventors have
obligations to report these inventions to the University and the sponsor.
Refer to the Reporting
Inventions policy for instructions on reporting inventions.
Adverse Events
Any adverse events must be reported to the sponsor and, if it is a clinical
trial, to the FDA as well.
Reporting changes within the University
PIs use the technical or progress report to inform the sponsor about progress on and changes to the original proposal. When PIs prepare these progress reports, they must remember that many of the same changes must also be reported within the University. For example, if the PI decided to use animals, the animal use committee must be informed and the appropriate compliance approvals sought. If the PI changed departments during the course of the year and did not inform SPA, the PI must do so at this time. SPA must also be informed of any significant budgetary changes.
